Skaudvilaitė Elena
Elena Skaudvilaitė – poetess.
She was born 12 May, 1935 in Jautakiškiai, Kelmė district.
In 1955 she graduated from Kražiai Secondary school. In 1961 she finished her studies of Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University. She started writing while she was still at school signing by name Aušrinė. During her study years and later she had been repeatedly interrogated and questioned the Soviet services because of her poems. During the years of 1961-1997 she worked as a teacher at schools in Rietavas, Kaltinėnai, Laukuva, Darbėnai, Veiviržėnai and other schools, because she was often moved from one place to the other. From 1960 she was a member of an underground organization that has contributed to the underground press distribution. Till 1989 she was a member of Klaipėda Young Writers Section and Žemaitija Writers Association.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 1999.
