Šaltenis Saulius
Saulius Šaltenis – prose writer, playwright.
He was born 24 December, 1945 in Utena.
In 1963-1964 he studied Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University, then he did military service in Soviet army for two years. In 1969-1972 he worked at Lithuanian Film Studios as a member of script editorial board. In 1989 together with A. Juozaitis and S. Stoma he established a cultural weekly newspaper “Šiaurės Atėnai” and was an editor during the years of 1990-1994. From 1994 till 1996 he was an editor in chief of daily newspaper “Lietuvos aidas”. He was among those who signed the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania. In 1990-1992 he was a member of Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania. During the years of 1992-2000 he was a member of Seimas. From 1996 till 1999 he was a Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 1971.
