Nekrošius Juozas

Juozas Nekrošius – poet.
He was born 21 December, 1935 in Rimgailiai, Raseiniai district.
In 1954 he finished Betygala Secondary school, did military service, worked for a local newspaper and got married. In 1964 he finished his studies of journalism at Vilnius University. From 1964 till 1973 he was a member of the Central Committee of Lithuanian Communist Party. From 1973 till 1990 he was a chairman of National Publishing and Book Market Committee. During the years of 1976-1986 he was a member of Lithuanian Communist Audit Party Commission. In 1992-1996 he was a member of the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic and from 1994 till 1996 a Minister of Culture. Since 1997 he is a founder and leader of publishing house “Alka”. He was a chairman of LSSR Book Fellowship and from 1988 he was one of the founders of Lithuanian Fund for Children and its chairman. He has published his poetry books in Armenian, Latvian and Russian languages.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 1971.
