Bieliauskas Alfonsas
Alfonsas Bieliauskas – prose writer, literary critic.
He was born 5 October, 1923 in Naujieji Neveronys, Kaunas district.
From 1937 till 1941 he studied at 3rd National Gymnasium of Kaunas. In 1941 he moved to Russia and worked at wood-cutting areas in Siberia. In 1942 he served at 16th Lithuanian divizion, studied at Komsomol party course in Yaroslavl. He worked at Moscow radio Lithuanian broadcasts and press. From 1944 till 1946 he was a head of Kaunas city Communist Youth organization. During 1946-1949 he studied Lithuanian literature in Kaunas University. From 1947 till 1949 he worked as a reviewer at “Tarybų Lietuva” newspaper. From 1949 he lived in Lithuania. In 1951 he finished his studies of Lithuanian philology at Vilnius University and from 1951 till 1970 worked at “Švyturys” magazine, at first as a deputy of editor in chief and from 1954 as an editor in chief. In 1970-1976 he was a board chairman of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union. His first short story appeared in press in 1940. His works are translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, German, English and other languages.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 1951.
