Bučys Algimantas

Algimantas Bučys – literary researcher and critic, poet, prose writer, translator.
He was born 19 October, 1939 in Kaunas.
In 1962 he finished studies of the Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University. He worked as a teacher at Bartkuškis 8 year school. In 1964 he was sent to continue studies in the field of World's Literature theory. In 1968 he got his degree in philology and in 1994 he got his Doctor's degree. After his studies he chose to be a freelance creator and turned down the offer to work in the Institute of Lithuanian language and literature. He worked in literary press for some time (with breaks) : in “Literatūra ir menas”, “Pergalė”, during years 1993–1994 he worked as an editor in chief of “Gimtasis kraštas” and during 1998-1999 a cultural journalist in “Respublika”. He has published a lot of articles and reviews in Lithuanian and foreign press.
A member of Lithuanian Writers' Union since 1968.
